AC Repair · Tomball and northwest Houston
AC repair that starts with the diagnosis
Capacitors, contactors, refrigerant leaks and frozen coils, found and named before anything is replaced.
Capacitor, contactor, leak, coil, drain: the fault gets a name first
A system that has stopped cooling is usually telling you which part failed, if someone reads it in order. The outdoor fan sits still while the compressor hums, and a failed run capacitor is the first part to meter. The condenser never starts at all, and the contactor that closes the circuit is worn or burned. Warm air from the vents with both fans running points at refrigerant, which means a leak has to be found rather than topped off and forgotten.
Ice on the copper line set or a frosted evaporator coil comes from airflow or charge, and melting it only buys a few days. Water at the air handler, or a tripped float switch, means a clogged condensate line. Each of those is a finding, written down with the reading beside it. ASR Mechanical has worked from Commercial Park Road in Tomball since 1997, and the technician's first job on arrival is to tell you which of the five you have.

Repair or replace, decided on the unit in front of the technician
Some systems do need replacing, and the compressor, the coil and the age of the cabinet all count toward that call. Plenty do not. One reviewer, T G, had been told by another HVAC company that an entirely new unit was the answer, so they asked ASR for a second opinion. Their review says: “They laid out what needed to be done and let me know that I would NOT need a new unit.” That is the order of work here: look at the machine, then decide.
The decision rests on what was measured, not on a sales quota. A unit that needs a capacitor and a cleaning gets a capacitor and a cleaning. If the compressor has failed or the coil has leaked past repair, you hear that too, with the reasons set out so you can weigh them against any other quote on your table. Bring that quote along if you have one, and the technician will go through it line by line with the unit open.
The cost before the work, then a test run with the system cooling
Nothing gets opened up until you have heard the price. T G wrote that ASR let them know “the cost up front”, and Priscilla K, who had been pushed toward maintenance plans by other companies, described “a clear diagnosis and a fair, reasonable price.” The habit is simple. The number is stated, you agree to it, and only then does the work begin, with no scare tactics and no surprise added on the invoice at the end.
Once the repair is made, the job is not finished until the system is running. The technician starts it, lets it settle, and confirms the outdoor fan, the compressor and the air at the vents are all doing their jobs, with the system cooling before anyone leaves. ASR holds Texas HVAC license TACLA85163E and serves Tomball, Magnolia, Spring, Cypress and the rest of northwest Houston. Call (281) 351-5354 and say what the system is doing.
“They diagnosed our problem straight away and were able to get the part and replace it the next day.” Joseph Cluff, Google review.
Symptoms
What the symptom usually points to, and what gets checked.
Fan still
The outdoor fan is not spinning
A failed run capacitor or a worn contactor, metered before either one is replaced.
Warm air
Both fans run, the air is not cold
Refrigerant level read against the gauges, and a leak search instead of a top-off.
Ice
Frost on the line set or the coil
A frozen evaporator coil traces back to airflow or charge, and the cause is found, not just thawed.
Water
Water at the air handler
A clogged condensate line, cleared and checked so it drains again.

A repair that holds is easier to keep that way with a yearly look at the same parts, which is what HVAC maintenance covers. If the unit is past saving, the next step is AC installation, and every town ASR covers is listed in one place.
